Profit and Loss
1. Overview
The Profit and Loss (P/L) report in Sumo Ledger generates an income statement showing revenue and expense accounts for a selected period. It provides a view of the organization's financial performance by summarizing income earned and expenses incurred.

2. Report Filters
| Filter | Description |
|---|---|
| Select Date | A date range picker that defines the reporting period. |
| Reporting Groups | A dropdown to select a reporting group to scope the report. |
| Asset | A dropdown to filter by asset type. |
| Aggregate Data | A checkbox to aggregate balances across sub-level accounts. Enabled by default. |
| Cash Only | A checkbox to show only cash-based entries. Disabled by default. |
Generating the Report
Click "Get Report" to generate the P/L statement.
3. Report Output
The report displays income and expense accounts with their respective totals for the selected period. Accounts are organized hierarchically based on the chart of accounts structure.
Exporting
Click "Export Data (.xlsx)" to download the P/L report as an Excel spreadsheet.
4. Best Practices
- Run P/L reports monthly or quarterly to track financial performance trends.
- Compare across reporting groups to analyze performance by business unit or period.
- Use the Cash Only filter when you need a cash-basis view rather than an accrual-basis view.
- Export to Excel for presentation to management or for further analysis.
