About Sumo Ledger

Sumo Ledger is a finance orchestration platform that empowers financial institutions to innovate faster, operate smarter, and deliver exceptional customer experiences.

Designed for real-time, high-volume transaction environments, Sumo Ledger ingests business events and converts them into double-entry ledger entries instantly. Its architecture is built to pull data from multiple sources and consolidate it in real time, supporting modern banking needs such as multi-currency transactions, idempotent API calls (safe against duplicates), and real-time webhooks for event notification.

In short, Sumo Ledger acts as a flexible ledger core engine for loans, deposits, and other financial products.

Core Components

The following components work together to automate, orchestrate, and govern financial processes while ensuring compliance, auditability, and operational efficiency.

Process

The Process is the central orchestration layer of Sumo Ledger. Built on an event-driven architecture, it ensures that all business, validation, and compliance steps are executed in a controlled, sequential, and auditable manner.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Orchestrating end-to-end financial processes from initiation through to completion and disbursement.
  • Managing step-by-step execution of critical checks, including account validation, compliance verification, fee deduction, and exception handling.
  • Leveraging idempotent APIs to ensure safe retries without duplicate postings.

This orchestration ensures consistency, reduces manual intervention, and enables near real-time decisioning.

Form

The Form Builder enables institutions to design simple, user-friendly application interfaces while offloading complexity to backend automation.

Key capabilities include:

  • Designing application forms aligned with product and compliance requirements.
  • Creating minimal input interfaces to reduce friction and data entry errors.
  • Automatically handling all backend validations — through Sumo Ledger workflows and integrations, ensuring a seamless end-user experience.

Collect and Feed

The Collect and Feed layer handles data collection, parsing, and ingestion from external regulators, market infrastructure, and legacy systems.

Supported ingestion channels include:

  • APIs
  • Text-based files
  • FTP / SMTP
  • Web portals (screen-based automation where APIs are unavailable)

By combining API integration with Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Sumo Ledger can achieve straight-through processing even in environments where modern APIs are not consistently available.

Journal

The Journal is the system of record and a core strength of the Sumo Ledger platform. It provides a tamper-proof, immutable, double-entry accounting framework for all financial activities.

It maintains immutable records of:

  • Application and transaction state transitions across the full lifecycle.
  • Computation details, including eligibility outcomes and pricing.
  • Asset and collateral pledge, re-pledge, and release status.

Key benefits include:

  • Complete auditability for internal, external, and regulatory audits.
  • Easy reconciliation between operational systems, general ledger, and partner systems.
  • Time-stamped traceability of every action, decision, and financial posting.

This ensures regulatory confidence while simplifying financial reporting and dispute resolution.

Tariff

The Tariff / Rule Engine enables policy-driven, configurable decisioning without requiring code changes, empowering business and risk teams to act independently.

Rule-based evaluations include:

  • Ratio and threshold calculations based on product type and valuation.
  • Validation of eligible items against institution-approved lists.
  • Enforcement of exposure limits at the customer, group, or portfolio level.
  • Tariff setup for service fees, compliance checks, and other applicable charges.

The engine is fully configurable to align with an institution's credit, risk, and pricing policies, allowing rapid updates in response to regulatory or market changes.

Connect

The Connect component manages integration between Sumo Ledger and external applications through a dynamic, streamlined connection procedure.

It handles connectivity to a wide range of external services, including compliance APIs, credit scoring services, market data feeds, and fund transfer systems, allowing Sumo Ledger to operate as a unified orchestration hub across your technology ecosystem.

Gateway

The Gateway component serves as the access layer for third-party applications to interact with Sumo Ledger's core components and data.

It exposes and manages APIs for external applications such as Loan Management Systems, Analytics platforms, Mobile Banking applications, and other institutional front-end systems, enabling secure and controlled integration across channels.
